Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, widely known as Kantanka, the African Star, has died at the age of 77. His passing was officially announced by the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church in a statement issued on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Apostle Safo, revered as a man of God, innovator, philanthropist, agriculturist, and industrialist, was celebrated for his groundbreaking contributions to Ghana’s technological and industrial landscape. As founder of the Kantanka brand, he pioneered local automobile and machinery production, earning him a place as one of Ghana’s most iconic inventors.
The family’s statement described him as “a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless,” adding that his life epitomized resilience, courage, and determination.
Romans 14:8 “For if we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord” was quoted in honour of his lifelong devotion to God and service to humanity.
Tributes have since begun pouring in across the country, with many describing his death as a monumental loss to Ghana and Africa.
“The burial and funeral arrangements shall be duly communicated in the coming days,” the statement, signed by his daughter and former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, concluded.
