Conservative activist and Trump ally, Charlie Kirk, was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. He was 31.

Eyewitnesses reported that Kirk was answering audience questions when a bullet struck him in the neck, causing panic among attendees. Security officers and students attempted to administer first aid before he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident occurred about 20 minutes into his “American Comeback” tour program. Moments before the attack, Kirk had been addressing a question on mass shootings. Utah Valley University officials said the shot was fired from the rooftop of the Losee Center, about 200 yards from where the event was held.

Police initially detained an elderly man but later released him after investigations cleared him of any involvement. The FBI and Utah law enforcement agencies have since launched a nationwide manhunt for the unidentified shooter.

Kirk, a father of two, is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, their three-year-old daughter, and 16-month-old son. The couple had marked their fourth wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Tributes have poured in following his death. Former U.S. President Donald Trump described Kirk as “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk,” adding that he was deeply admired and loved. Trump extended condolences to Kirk’s family, calling the tragedy a huge loss.
