Ghana’s Black Stars secured a crucial 1–0 victory over Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, tightening their grip at the top of Group I.

The decisive moment came in the 49th minute when Alexander Djiku improvised brilliantly to slot home from a Jordan Ayew corner, scoring what proved to be the match-winner.

Despite creating counterattacking opportunities late in the game, Ghana failed to extend their advantage, leaving fans on edge until the final whistle. The contest was fiercely physical, with both teams struggling to maintain clean passing for long periods. After Djiku’s goal, Mali dominated possession while Ghana defended deep to preserve the lead.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare proved vital for the Black Stars, pulling off key saves from long-range efforts and dangerous crosses to deny the Malians an equaliser.

The win, combined with Ghana’s earlier 1–1 draw against Chad, takes the Black Stars to 19 points with a +11 goal difference, three points clear of second-placed Madagascar.

Mali remain fourth with 12 points, while Comoros sit third on 15 points. Ghana will face Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 11 in the final round of qualification matches.
