The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed reports circulating in sections of the media claiming that comedian and teacher, Michael Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Teacher Kwadwo, has been reinstated into the Service.
In a statement released on the GES Facebook page and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service described the reports as false.
“Mr. Owusu Afriyie has not been reinstated,” the statement clarified, adding that if he believes his dismissal was unfair, he is free to submit a formal petition for consideration. The public was also advised to disregard the misleading reports.
Background
Teacher Kwadwo, a popular comedian and social media influencer, was dismissed by the Ghana Education Service in December 2021. His dismissal, according to reports at the time, was linked to alleged professional misconduct and his outspoken criticism of the GES over issues such as inadequate resources for teachers and poor conditions in schools.
The move sparked widespread debate, with some Ghanaians supporting the Service’s decision while others condemned it as an attack on free expression.
The latest clarification from the GES reaffirms that his dismissal remains in force, contrary to the recent media claims of reinstatement. Notably, the comedian has not been active on social media for over a year now, with his whereabouts currently unknown.
