Fire Destroys Shops at Anomangye Market in Suame

A late-night fire on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, ravaged the Anomangye Market in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region, leaving scores of shops in ruins.

According to eyewitnesses, the blaze started around 10:30 p.m., reportedly from a charcoal shop, before spreading quickly to surrounding stores. Within hours, several shops were engulfed, with traders losing goods ranging from vehicle spare parts to provisions.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene and worked to contain the flames, focusing on preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the market.

The extent of damage is yet to be fully assessed, and the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Meanwhile, many traders have been left counting heavy losses.
