President John Dramani Mahama has sought assistance from American specialists to analyse the black box recovered from last week’s military helicopter crash, which killed eight people. According to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the move aims to ensure an independent and credible investigation free from suspicion.
Mr. Ablakwa confirmed that the US experts had already responded positively and were expected in Ghana soon. He stressed that the government’s priority was transparency, assuring that the public would be updated at every stage of the probe.
The minister also revealed that the Chinese manufacturers of the Z9 helicopter had been contacted and were ready to assist, in line with standing protocols. However, President Mahama insisted that no steps be taken without independent oversight to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
Ablakwa commended the decision, noting that the American team’s detachment from the process would help meet international best practices. He emphasised that the investigation’s integrity was essential in honouring the victims, many of whom had dedicated their lives to principles of good governance, accountability, and truth.
