The Upper West Regional Police Command has announced the successful prosecution of Mohammed Ali, who has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for firearms possession and robbery-related offences in Tumu. The sentence was handed down by His Honour Jonathan Avoogo on Monday, August 11, 2025.
Ali came to the attention of police following a fatal motor accident at Bugubelle on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in which he was involved. During the response, officers discovered incriminating evidence on him at the accident site, including ammunition and an offensive weapon.
Under interrogation, Ali admitted to possessing the items and confessed to participating in robberies within the municipality. He also revealed the identities of other accomplices who are currently on the run.
He was charged with robbery, preparation to commit crime to wit robbery, and possession of a firearm without lawful authority. Ali pleaded guilty to all charges, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.
