The Adabraka District Court has remanded Bright Aweh, the primary suspect in the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, into police custody for two weeks. Aweh is believed to be the last person the officer contacted before he went missing on July 3, 2025. His body, partially burnt, was later discovered on July 9 at Abuom Junction, near Kwabenya.
The court adjourned the case to August 22 as investigations continue.
Stephen Amoah, aged 38, had left his Ashongman Estate home to meet a friend but never returned. His family, devastated by his death, has called for justice. “We’re in pain… my mother is broken. We hope this isn’t another case swept under the rug,” said his sister, Vesta Amoah.
Initially handled as a kidnapping, the case was later classified as a murder. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has formally charged Aweh and disclosed chilling details from their investigations.
According to CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the suspect had sent Amoah photos of large cash amounts and arranged to meet him. He allegedly handed Amoah GH₵500,000, part of which was a debt repayment. However, inconsistencies in his story and the mysterious source of the funds raised red flags.
A burnt body discovered near the GBC Satellite area on July 9 was later confirmed to be Amoah’s. Forensic searches at Aweh’s home revealed bloodstains, evidence of a rushed cleanup, painted walls, and an empty spray paint can. Additional clues, including a blood-soaked pestle and burnt carpet, were recovered near his residence.
Police also found traces of blood in Aweh’s car. Forensic analysis is underway, and DNA samples from Amoah’s family are being used to confirm the body’s identity.
