
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have joined the nation in mourning the loss of eight individuals who died in a military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.
Among the victims were prominent government officials including Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, former President Akufo-Addo described the incident as a devastating national tragedy that has left the country deeply shocked.
“I have expressed my deepest condolences to President John Dramani Mahama and NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah,” Akufo-Addo noted, adding that his thoughts and prayers are also with the bereaved families and the Ghana Air Force. He paid tribute to the courage and commitment of the fallen military personnel, and prayed, “May they find peaceful rest in the bosom of the Almighty until we meet again.”
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also released a statement, conveying heartfelt condolences to President Mahama, the bereaved families, and the entire nation. He acknowledged knowing many of the victims personally, describing the loss as both painful and personal.
“These men paid the ultimate price in service to Ghana. Their passing leaves a nation in mourning,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia added that he, his wife Samira, the Bawumia family, and the New Patriotic Party stand in solidarity with the country in this difficult time. “May the good Lord grant strength and healing to the families, the Government, and the people of Ghana,” he concluded.
