Gov’T Confirms Death Of Defence Minister Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed And Six Others In Adansi Helicopter Crash

Ghana is in mourning following the tragic deaths of two senior government officials in a military helicopter crash earlier today.

Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, have been confirmed dead after a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi crashed in the Ashanti Region.

The confirmation came from Chief of Staff Julius Debrah in an official statement issued this afternoon.

The Z-9 military helicopter, which carried eight people including three crew members and five passengers, went off radar shortly after takeoff. The aircraft was later discovered in Adansi Akrofuom, completely burned and beyond recognition, according to eyewitnesses.

Emergency services and military investigators are at the crash site as the government begins a full investigation into the cause of the incident. The identities of the remaining passengers and crew members have not yet been publicly released.
