The Government of Ghana has raised the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season by 62.58%, moving from US$3,100 to US$5,040 per tonne. This aligns with President John Mahama’s pledge to give cocoa farmers 70% of the Free-On-Board (FOB) value, which now stands at US$7,200 per tonne.

Announced by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) and chaired by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the new price in cedi terms is GHS51,660 per tonne or GHS3,228.75 per 64kg bag at an exchange rate of GHS10.25 to US$1.

The government also disclosed that it had been offering a GHS1,114 per bag subsidy to farmers since Q2 2025, ensuring the farmer’s share of FOB reached over 99% despite earlier currency fluctuations.

Key measures include:

Reintroduction of the Free Fertiliser Programme, supplying cocoa farmers with free liquid and granular fertilisers, insecticides, fungicides, flower inducers, and spraying machines.
MA new Cocoa Scholarship Scheme for tertiary education, beginning with the 2025/26 cocoa season and fully rolling out by 2026/27.
Ghana Cocoa Traceability System, launching this season to align with the EU’s deforestation regulations effective December 31, 2025.
Major COCOBOD reforms, including amendments to its governing Act to prevent deviation from its core mandate and the transfer of cocoa road projects to the Roads Ministry.
