The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially announced the opening of nominations for the upcoming by-election in the Akwatia Constituency. The nomination window will run from Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

The by-election comes in the wake of the unfortunate passing of the sitting Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, resulting in a vacant seat in accordance with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution.

According to the EC, prospective candidates must submit their completed nomination forms at the Denkyembour District Office between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily within the nomination period.

Nomination forms are available for download on the EC’s official website ([www.ec.gov.gh](http://www.ec.gov.gh)) starting July 30 until the close of nominations on August 13.

Candidates must also attach two recent passport-sized photographs with a red background.

The filing fee has been pegged at GHC10,000 per candidate. However, in line with the EC’s commitment to inclusivity, female candidates and persons with disabilities will enjoy a concession, paying GHC7,500.
