The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially handed over 17 gold bars, valued at $1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) in a ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.
The gold, seized by NACOC’s Upper East Regional Command at the Paga Border Post, was being smuggled out of the country by two Burkinabe nationals. The suspects have been charged with gold-related offences involving the illegal transportation and dealing of the precious metal.
Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, assured GoldBod of the Ministry’s unwavering support in its mandate to regulate and manage Ghana’s gold resources responsibly.
Receiving the gold bars, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, thanked the Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, and praised the efforts of security personnel for the successful interception and transfer. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among state agencies in protecting Ghana’s mineral wealth.
The event was witnessed by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Doreen Annan, along with senior officials from NACOC and GoldBod.
