27 Arrested, Excavators and Weapons Seized In Anti-Galamsey Raid At Ankaase Gyadam

The Ghana Police Service has arrested twenty-seven (27) male suspects in a major anti-illegal mining (galamsey) operation at Ankaase Gyadam, near Asamang Tamfoe in the Eastern Region.

The intelligence-led operation was carried out on Friday, July 25, 2025, targeting illegal mining sites in the area. According to police sources, the suspects were apprehended while actively engaging in illegal mining activities.

During the raid, some individuals reportedly attempted to resist arrest and attacked the officers with machetes and other weapons. Despite the resistance, officers managed to subdue the suspects and secure the area.

A number of heavy-duty and mining-related equipment were seized during the operation, including:

Eleven (11) excavators
One (1) bulldozer
One (1) pump-action shotgun
Three (3) saloon vehicles
One (1) Mitsubishi pickup truck
One (1) pick loader
Several water pumping machines and other mining tools

All suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. The seized equipment and weapons have been secured as exhibits.

The operation forms part of intensified efforts by security agencies to clamp down on illegal mining activities, which continue to pose serious environmental and security challenges across parts of the country.
