President John Dramani Mahama has referred a detailed report on electoral violence from the 2020 and 2024 general elections to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for legal review and recommendations.
The report, prepared by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, outlines numerous violent incidents that occurred during the two election cycles. These include shootings, physical confrontations between political party supporters, and clashes involving security personnel.
According to the findings, eight people died in the 2020 elections, while the 2024 polls recorded three fatalities, along with several injuries across various constituencies.
President Mahama’s directive to the IGP to compile the report came shortly after he took office, following growing calls from civil society groups for justice and accountability in dealing with politically motivated violence.
