Kasoa-Winneba Highway Robber Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison

The Kasoa-Ofaakor Circuit Court has sentenced Mohammed Bello, a suspect in a recent highway robbery, to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour for his involvement in a violent attack along the Dabanyin stretch of the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.

The robbery occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025, when Bello and four accomplices ambushed a Toyota Hiace vehicle near Gomoa Buduatta Junction. The assailants opened fire, injuring four passengers and robbing them of mobile phones, cash, and other valuables.

Bello was arrested shortly after the incident by officers from the Gomoa East District Police Command while attempting to flee the scene. He was later transferred to the Central East Regional Police Command, where he was charged, prosecuted, and convicted.

In a statement, the police confirmed ongoing efforts to track down the remaining suspects. “We assure the public of our continued commitment to safety and law enforcement,” the statement read.

Upon his arrest, police found GH₵3,740, two Samsung phones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, a power bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a phone charger, and a pair of sandals later identified by one of the victims.

All four victims received medical treatment and praised the police for their swift response. Authorities are calling on other potential victims to come forward to aid in ongoing investigations.

Police have reiterated their determination to apprehend the remaining fugitives and bring them to justice.
