Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has denied claims that he attempted to interfere with an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), clarifying that he never contacted the OSP’s office as suggested in a recent statement.

Responding to the OSP’s claim that he reached out during an active investigation into Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Gyampo stated, “Kissi, I didn’t call your office, I called YOU and we never spoke on phone because you said you couldn’t speak and that you were going to call back.”

He explained that his text message was not meant to obstruct the OSP’s work but to caution against decisions that could potentially lead to financial loss for the state.

“I texted you just to caution you not to cause financial loss to the state even as you go about your investigations, which I fully favor,” he said.

Gyampo had earlier expressed hope during a TV appearance that the OSP’s probe was motivated by patriotism and not personal vendetta, a comment the OSP described as “unfounded” and potentially damaging to public confidence in Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.

The OSP emphasized that any form of interference, direct or suggestive, could undermine its work. In response, Gyampo insisted he acted out of national interest and has promised to release WhatsApp messages exchanged with the Special Prosecutor to clarify his intent.

The case, which centers on allegations of abuse of office involving a contract awarded to SML, remains under investigation.
