The proprietor of The Big Six Educational Complex, Mr. Afoakwa Sarpong, has been arrested for allegedly confining two students during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The incident reportedly occurred at the school premises located in Meduma, within the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, the arrest was carried out on Monday, June 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. by Nana Adu Mensah Asare, Educational Director for Kwabre East Municipal, with support from Mavis Okyere Anane, Public Relations Officer of the Education Directorate. Mr. Sarpong was handed over to the Mamponteng District Police Command for allegedly assaulting two Junior High School candidates by imprisoning them.

The allegations stem from a troubling development on June 16, during the just-ended BECE. Mr. Sarpong is accused of unlawfully preventing two students from writing the Mathematics paper, allegedly due to their inability to pay registration fees. Preliminary investigations suggest that the students were locked in a separate room at the examination center and were only released after the paper had concluded.
