“LGBTQ+ Is Not Natural And I Still Oppose It”- Speaker Of Parliament

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has reiterated his strong opposition to LGBTQ+ activities, asserting that such practices will never be accepted or legalised in Ghana.

Speaking during a visit to Uganda, Bagbin stated that LGBTQ+ orientations contradict Ghana’s cultural values and moral principles. He described the growing push for LGBTQ+ rights as a foreign imposition that must be firmly resisted.

“You can be sure that the world they want to create and impose on us will not exist while we are alive. LGBT is not African, it is not natural, and God did not create it. This is an imposition that we must all resist,” Bagbin said.

His remarks come as Ghana continues to grapple with legislative and legal issues related to the controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill. The bill, passed by Parliament during the 8th session, did not receive presidential assent before the end of the term. While President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not sign the bill into law, he also refrained from forwarding it to the Supreme Court.

Instead, the bill’s legality was challenged by private individuals in court, citing constitutional concerns and procedural errors in its passage. These legal challenges were still pending by the close of the 8th Parliament, causing the bill to lapse.
