The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected Ghana Water Limited (GWL) from the national grid due to an outstanding debt of GH¢999.6 million.

The disconnection occurred on Tuesday, June 17, as part of ECG’s nationwide revenue mobilisation and disconnection campaign targeting indebted public and private institutions. According to ECG officials, the move is intended to curb persistent non-payment and enhance the financial stability of the power sector.

Following the GWL disconnection, the ECG task force also visited the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which was disconnected over a debt of GH¢3,153,484.98. ECG stated that GBC had failed to honour a previously agreed structured payment plan, prompting the action.
