Stephen Ayesu Ntim, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has temporarily stepped aside from his duties due to health-related issues.

In a letter dated Monday, June 16, 2025, and addressed to the party’s Council of Elders, Mr. Ntim’s family formally requested a short leave of absence for him from all party-related activities. According to the family, Mr. Ntim is currently battling health conditions described as involving “cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation.”

The letter, signed by family head Kingsley Oteng and Nsuta/Kwaman Beposo MP Adelaide Ntim, emphasized that any pressure to engage in political work could worsen his condition and infringe on his health and rights. The family insisted he should not attend any political meetings, including one scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2025, which he was expected to chair.

“Common sense dictates that Steve, as a matter of urgency, be temporarily excused, not only from the rigours of active politics, but from intra-party activities – in order to make way for needed peace and solace and for concentration on the ongoing required medical treatment process,” the letter stated.

As of now, the NPP leadership has not issued an official response to the family’s request.
