Police Foil Armed Robbery on Kumasi-Bibiani Highway; One Suspect Killed

The Nkwawie Divisional Police Patrol Team successfully thwarted an armed robbery attack on Monday, June 2, 2025, at around 7:30 p.m. along the Kumasi-Bibiani highway, between Ahwerewa and Esaase.

According to a police press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, five armed robbers stopped two Sprinter buses and attempted to rob passengers at gunpoint. One of the suspects was armed with a pump-action gun.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police were fired upon by the suspect wielding the pump-action gun. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding him. He was later pronounced dead at the Afari Government Hospital. The remaining four suspects managed to escape and are currently at large.

Authorities suspect the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds and are calling on medical facilities to report any individuals seeking treatment for suspicious injuries.

The deceased suspect’s body has been deposited at the Afari Government Hospital morgue for further investigation.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command praised the Nkwawie Patrol Team for their swift and professional response, which helped prevent what could have been a deadly attack.
