A major fire tore through the Maaha Beach Resort in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region on the evening of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, destroying several key structures near the resort’s main pool.

The blaze reportedly began at around 7 p.m. in the kitchen area of Vision Beach, a neighboring resort, before rapidly spreading to Maaha Beach Resort, causing significant damage to beachfront facilities and guest accommodations.

An eyewitness described the scene as chaotic and expressed frustration over the delay in firefighting efforts. Although a fire truck from the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant was in the vicinity, it could not intervene due to the specific chemicals it uses, which were unsuitable for the type of fire that broke out.

“The fire started at Vision Beach’s kitchen and moved through their front desk before reaching us,” the witness explained. “The Ghana Gas fire tender was nearby but couldn’t assist, so we had to reach out to the MP’s personal assistant to get fire tenders from Axim and other locations.”

The delayed response allowed the flames to consume additional structures before backup teams from Axim and nearby towns eventually managed to bring the situation under control.
