The Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has officially suspended its nationwide strike following a breakthrough in negotiations with the government.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the association announced that the Ministry of Finance had finally issued the long-awaited letter authorizing the implementation of a negotiated agreement, effective from November 2024.
In response, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed all public universities to begin immediate payment of the agreed benefits.
Consequently, SSA-UoG has instructed its members to resume work on Friday, May 23.
The suspension of the industrial action comes just a day after SSA-UoG, together with the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), declared an indefinite strike over what they termed as prolonged delays in the implementation of a six-month-old agreement.
The association expressed gratitude to the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and GTEC Director-General Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, for their leadership and commitment in resolving the dispute.
