National Security officers on Thursday, May 15, raided the residence of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure.

The operation, which was carried out in his absence, aimed to recover vehicles suspected to be state property that Mr. Jumah had retained after leaving office.

According to sources close to the investigation, Mr. Jumah is accused of purchasing a luxury state-owned vehicle worth nearly $100,000 for a mere GHS 4,943, a transaction approved by the GIHOC board in 2019. He is also said to have kept two additional official vehicles without formal approval one of which was allegedly used by his son and has since been returned.

Beyond the vehicle saga, Mr. Jumah is being investigated for allegedly bloating the company’s workforce, a move that reportedly placed significant financial strain on GIHOC’s operations. Additionally, he is accused of selling company properties in Tema valued at over $700,000 without securing the necessary board or governmental approval.

Investigators say the raid forms part of a broader effort to trace and recover state assets misappropriated during Mr. Jumah’s leadership.

The developments come amid renewed national scrutiny of public sector accountability, with several high-profile figures under investigation for abuse of office and financial irregularities.

National Security sources have confirmed that Mr. Jumah will be invited for questioning as part of the probe.
