Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has taken a swipe at President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as a lenient approach to the recent controversy surrounding Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board.

Speaking at the Entrepreneurship and National Leadership event at Central University on Thursday, May 15, Agyapong said he would have immediately dismissed Gyamfi if he were president.

“Nepotism and favoritism are what’s killing this country. If I were the president, I would have sacked Sammy Gyamfi without hesitation. The evidence was clear. There was no need for further investigation,” Agyapong stated emphatically.

His remarks referenced a viral video in which Gyamfi is seen handing over an undisclosed amount of U.S. dollars to controversial evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa. The video sparked widespread public concern over a potential breach of ethical conduct and foreign exchange laws.

Agyapong further lamented the systemic effects of political favoritism, particularly in the civil service, where he said qualified young people are often overlooked due to political connections.

“Young graduates can’t even get proper national service placements unless they know someone in power. Because of nepotism, we put square pegs in round holes, and that’s a major hindrance to development,” he said.
