President John Dramani Mahama has launched the One Million Coders Programme, a nationwide digital initiative aimed at equipping one million Ghanaians with coding, data analytics, cybersecurity, and other digital skills over the next four years.
Launched on April 16, 2025, the initiative forms a key part of the government’s Reset Ghana agenda, with the goal of preparing youth for global competitiveness in the digital economy. Mahama emphasized that the program will tackle unemployment, drive innovation, and support entrepreneurship.
The first 560 trainees have already begun sessions in Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, and Bolgatanga, following an overwhelming response of over 90,000 applications within the first 48 hours.
Mahama stated the programme will be inclusive, targeting women, rural youth, and persons with disabilities. Training centres will be set up across all 261 districts, using existing community information centres.
“We are not just training coders,” he said, “we are building creators, innovators, and global problem-solvers.”
