Former NPP running mate and ex-Manhyia South MP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), has issued a harsh critique of President John Dramani Mahama’s first 100 days in office, accusing the government of backsliding on key national issues.
Speaking at the NPP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on April 16, 2025, Napo refused to give a numerical rating, saying, “It will be so bad, I don’t want to rate him.”
He listed a litany of concerns including the return of power outages (dumsor), a surge in galamsey activities, increased currency and gold smuggling, and rising insecurity—particularly in conflict-prone areas like Bawku, where he claimed more people have died in recent months than in the past four years.
Napo also questioned the government’s commitment to tackling illicit trade and crime, pointing to what he described as politically-linked arrests and a disconnect between Mahama’s promises and actions: “Talk is cheap, because if you can’t support your talk with actions.”
