ER: 15-year-old BECE Candidate S.lashed to D.eath Over GHC10 at Adukrom

A 15-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate has been tragically killed by a 17-year-old with a machete following a disagreement over GHC10. The incident occurred at Akwapem Adukrom in the Eastern Region.

According to eyewitness accounts, the two teenagers, who were formerly good friends, got into an argument that turned violent. One witness recounted:
“The suspect slapped me and demanded to know why I had slapped a member of his gang days ago over GHC10. I told my friend, now deceased, what had happened. He insisted we look for the suspect and confront him. The suspect later returned with a cutlass, and amid noise from a nearby taxi, attacked my friend, slashing his shoulder. I had to run for my life.”

The victim was rushed to the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. He suffered severe cuts to his head and shoulders, with excessive bleeding reported.

The community is in a state of shock, with residents describing the act as senseless and disturbing, especially among the youth.

Currently, families of the deceased are grieving and calling for justice. Police have since arrested three individuals in connection with the crime; the primary suspect, the owner of the machete, and an accomplice. Investigations and prosecution are ongoing.
