Former NPP Parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has called on President John Mahama to immediately dismiss the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, following controversial remarks in which he allegedly threatened to physically assault traders operating along pavements.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Wednesday, April 16, Akosua Manu condemned the Mayor’s comments as irresponsible and dangerous, stating that such rhetoric from a public official encourages lawlessness and contradicts democratic values.

“What I do not understand is how a leader can boldly stand before people and threaten them with assault. Even more alarming is that he repeated and defended this position when questioned,” she stated.

According to her, the Mayor’s stance not only violates basic principles of governance but also undermines the rule of law. She argued that a person in such a leadership position should never endorse violence as a means of enforcement.

“He should have been the shortest-serving appointee in this government. The moment he reiterated that point, the President should have intervened and called for his dismissal,” she stressed.

Akosua Manu emphasized that if allowed to go unchecked, the Mayor’s behavior could inspire similar conduct among other city authorities, leading to widespread abuse of power and civil unrest.

“He is setting a bad example. If Kumasi starts this, Accra and Tamale could follow. Law enforcement must always be conducted in a humane and civil manner—no one should be beaten or threatened,” she warned.
