A 36-year-old trader accused of unlawfully entering her ex-lover’s home, setting his belongings on fire, and stealing cash has been granted bail by the Enchi District Magistrate Court.

The accused, Ruth Arthur, also known as Amina, was granted bail in the sum of GH₵30,000 with two sureties after pleading guilty with an explanation to charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing.

The presiding judge, Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, initially intended to proceed with sentencing after Ruth’s guilty plea. However, after listening to her explanation, the court reversed its decision and opted to grant her bail.

According to the prosecution, led by General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante, the complainant, David Anni, alias Nana Atopah, is an Okada rider based in Amonie in the Aowin Municipality, where Ruth also resides.

The prosecution revealed that Ruth and David had been in a relationship for two years, but after the tragic loss of their two-month-old child, Ruth’s family opposed their relationship, leading to their separation.

On March 3, 2025, while David was attending his brother’s wedding in Nyameah, he received a distressing call from a friend, Akwasi, who informed him that Ruth had unlawfully entered his room and set his belongings on fire.

Upon returning home, David discovered that his room had been forcibly broken into and his savings of GH₵22,000 were missing. Further inspection revealed extensive damage to his property, including a 32-inch Hisense flat-screen television, a Binatone standing fan, Sony speakers, a master decoder, and a double-bed mattress. Kitchen items, including a container drum, were also destroyed, bringing the total estimated cost of the damage to GH₵27,019.

The case has been adjourned, and Ruth is expected to reappear in court for further proceedings.
