Young Woman Arrested for Allegedly Abandoning Newborn at Zebilla Market

A young woman has been arrested by the Bawku West District police for allegedly abandoning her four-day-old baby at the Zebilla market. The suspect, along with her sister, was apprehended in Kuloko, a farming community in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The incident occurred on March 28, 2025, when an infant was discovered near some shops at the Zebilla market square. Concerned individuals reported the case to the police, who, with assistance from the social welfare department, took the baby to the Zebilla District Hospital for medical examination and care.

Following investigations, law enforcement officers stormed Kuloko on April 1, 2025, leading to the arrest of the suspect and her sibling. According to the Assembly Member for the Kuloko electoral area, Joseph Anaba, the suspect had been pregnant for months but was reportedly unaware of the identity of the child’s father.

Authorities are currently handling the case, with social welfare officials ensuring the well-being of the infant.
