Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra experienced a temporary power outage on Tuesday, March 25, following a heavy downpour, leading to delays in both arrivals and departures.

The blackout disrupted airport operations, halting check-in processes and security screenings, causing inconvenience to passengers.

In a statement, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) explained that while the airport’s backup generators activated as expected, an electrical system fault delayed the restoration of power to the terminal.

“The backup power generating system came on as expected, but an electrical system fault prevented the deployment of power to the terminal. Power was fully restored at 18:19 hrs,” the statement read.

GACL apologized to affected passengers and assured the public of its commitment to ensuring smooth operations at the airport.
