The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has visited Dr. Ernest Addison, the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, following a National Security raid on his residence.

During his visit, Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, reportedly expressed outrage over the incident and assured Dr. Addison of his commitment to seeking answers from the government.

The raid, which took place on March 19, 2025, at Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge residence in Accra, was carried out by 20 armed men allegedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the security team:

  • Disabled the CCTV system before searching the house.
  • Demanded access to supposed “vaults” containing hidden cash, which Dr. Addison denied having.
  • Ransacked the house but found no vaults or significant amounts of cash.
  • Confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit before leaving.

A close associate of the Addison family described the incident as traumatizing for Dr. Addison, his wife, and their entire household.

This is the second known raid targeting high-profile figures from the previous Akufo-Addo administration since President John Mahama took office on January 7, 2025.

On February 10, 2025, National Security personnel similarly raided the home of Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s longest-serving Finance Minister. That raid, unlike Dr. Addison’s case, was captured on CCTV, and the footage was later released to the public.

Afenyo-Markin’s visit signals growing political concern over the nature of these security operations.
