The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced the government’s intention to upgrade the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital, into a Teaching Hospital.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Ghana’s healthcare system and expand opportunities for medical training. Speaking on JoyNews TV, Mr. Akandoh highlighted the government’s commitment to establishing a regional hospital in each of Ghana’s sixteen regions while ensuring the refurbishment of existing healthcare facilities.

“You don’t build new ones and leave already existing ones to deteriorate. So we are looking at improving Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and upgrading Korle Bu Teaching Hospital,” he said.
