You Will be in opposition for a very long time – Majority to Minority 

The Majority in Ghana’s Parliament has predicted that the Minority caucus will remain in opposition for an extended period, pointing to the Akufo-Addo administration’s perceived poor performance and lingering economic challenges.

During a debate on President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, Deputy Majority Leader Kweku Ricketts-Hagan criticized the previous Akufo-Addo government’s borrowing practices, which he argued had contributed to the country’s economic difficulties.

“From President Nana Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address, it was quite laughable to hear him advise President Mahama not to default. This is from a president who oversaw excessive borrowing and unilaterally chose not to pay debts from 2022, including avoiding interest payments,” Ricketts-Hagan said.

He questioned the Minority’s vocal criticism of the Mahama administration, which has been in office for only two months, urging them to “take their time” as Ghanaians had not forgotten the previous administration’s shortcomings.

“You have found your voices early, but you have to take your time. Ghanaians have not forgotten. You will be in opposition for a very long time,” he remarked.
