I will sue them if my name or property is included in ORAL findings – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has issued a stern warning, stating he will take legal action if his name or property is mentioned in the findings of the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative.

His statement follows reports that a property he has owned since 2006 was investigated under the operation. He alleged that drones were flown over his property, which shares a boundary with the Police Academy, in an attempt to link it to state land.

“They assumed it was state property because of its proximity to the Police Academy. But unfortunately for them, that’s not the case. And in any event, must they fly drones over my property?” Afenyo-Markin questioned.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, February 19, the Effutu MP accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of using ORAL as a tool to target political opponents instead of focusing on governance.

“Politicians often think that by attacking their opponents, they gain popularity. The NDC should focus on fulfilling its manifesto promises instead of coming after me,” he stated.

When asked how he would react if his name or property appeared in the ORAL report submitted to President John Mahama, Afenyo-Markin was firm in his response:

“I’ll sue them. If I find anything unlawful, I will sue each individual involved and ensure the law takes its course.”

Meanwhile, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine is expected to review the ORAL report and recommend prosecution for individuals named in the investigation. The ORAL team, which submitted its findings earlier this month, estimates that Ghana could reclaim over $21 billion in illegally acquired assets
