Dr. Alexander Yaw Adusei Jnr has been relieved of his position as Director of the Keta Sea Port as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing restructuring of key state agencies.

Dr. Adusei, who previously served as Director of Tema Port and CEO of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, was appointed in 2019 under former President Nana Akufo-Addo to oversee the development of the Keta Port project. However, the initiative has faced significant delays, leading to frustration among residents and stakeholders.

While official reasons for his removal have not been disclosed, sources indicate that the stalled progress of the port contributed to the decision.

In 2018, the Akufo-Addo government designated Keta as the site for a new port through an Executive Instrument, placing its development under the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA). Despite interest from six private investors in 2024, no concrete agreements were reached, and the project remains in its early stages.

During the 2024 election campaign, President Mahama criticized the previous administration for failing to deliver on the project, stating that after eight years, no major infrastructure had been developed. His government now faces the challenge of reviving the project and fulfilling public expectations.
