The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to thoroughly investigating the tragic events that occurred during Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC.

During a meeting with Asante Kotoko’s management at their secretariat, Dr. Dampare strongly condemned football-related violence, urging all stakeholders to recognize the sport’s power to unite rather than divide.

“We cannot allow another life to be lost over a game meant for entertainment,” he stated.

“Football has the power to bring us together at the national level, and even at the local level, it strengthens community bonds.”

The IGP called on fans, clubs, and officials to uphold the true spirit of the game, emphasizing that football should be enjoyed in an atmosphere of peace and camaraderie.

The meeting followed the tragic killing of Francis Yaw Frimpong, a devoted Asante Kotoko fan, who lost his life at Nana Koramansah Park during Matchday 19.
