A 25-year-old mechanic, Eric Boampong, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Asante Akropong Circuit Court for robbing a university student at Abrafo Kokobeng in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.
Boampong pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu.
According to Police Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the complainant, Roudy Aboagye Agyemang, a Level 400 student at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), resides in Abrafo Kokobeng, while the convict lives in Atwima Koforidua.
On January 10, 2025, around 2:00 a.m., Boampong broke into the complainant’s room while she was asleep. Upon waking, she caught him attempting to steal her iPhone 7, valued at GH¢1,200.
When the complainant tried to resist, Boampong, armed with two pairs of scissors, a plier, a spanner, and a magnetic substance, threatened to kill her if she did not comply. Fearing for her safety, she handed over the phone, rushed out of the room, and called for help.
Neighbors responded to her cries, apprehended Boampong, and handed him over to the Akropong Police.
During his caution statement, Boampong admitted to the crime. After investigations, he was charged and brought before the court, leading to his sentencing.
