Akufo-Addo’s Statue at Effia Nkwanta Vandalised Again

The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been completely vandalised. This is the second instance of damage to the monument, which was erected to honour the former president’s contributions during his tenure.

The first attack occurred on December 16, 2024, when unknown individuals damaged the statue’s leg. Although repairs were swiftly made, authorities were unable to apprehend the culprits, leaving the motives behind the act a mystery.

This latest act of vandalism, which has left the statue entirely toppled, comes just days after Akufo-Addo exited office as president. The incident raises concerns about security for public monuments and the underlying reasons for such targeted acts of defacement.

Positioned near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, it symbolized the government’s commitment to improving access to medical care in underserved communities.
