The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended 184 members in the Yendi constituency for violating the party’s constitution. The suspension, effective December 26, 2024, was unanimously decided during an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on December 23.

The meeting was attended by key party stakeholders, including Constituency Executives, the Council of Elders, the Council of Patrons, and members of the Disciplinary Committee.

Alhaji Baba Gazali, NPP Chairman in Yendi, announced the decision to the party’s National and Regional leadership as well as the general public. He revealed that the leadership acted after receiving numerous complaints against the suspended members, which were thoroughly investigated and found to have merit.

Allegations Against Suspended Members

The suspended members were accused of the following:

  1. Contesting as independent candidates against the party’s officially elected parliamentary candidate.

  4. Party officials refusing to work for the NPP in the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to the NPP’s constitution, members who run as independent candidates or support rival parties automatically lose their membership.
