The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to rerun the election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
The decision comes after the collation of results for 367 polling stations was completed, leaving three results unresolved. According to Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the EC’s Director of Training, one of the results was rejected due to being submitted on an incorrect statement of poll, as training sheets were mistakenly used.
Dr. Quaicoe explained:
“The commission rejected one outrightly because it was declared on the wrong form. After adding the other two results, the margin between the two leading candidates was 165 votes. The rejected polling station had 669 registered voters. If all those votes were awarded to the second candidate, it could change the outcome. Hence, a rerun was deemed necessary.”
The EC has assured that the rerun will take place before the official inauguration of the new parliamentary session. Dr. Quaicoe emphasized the need for transparency, saying:
“The final decision will be taken by the commission, but we are committed to ensuring a fair and credible process.”
This rerun is expected to resolve the uncertainties surrounding the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary election results, bringing closure to the constituency’s electoral disputes.
