Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar and leader of the New Force Movement, has debunked rumors suggesting he did not vote for his party in the recently concluded 2024 Presidential Election.
Speaking at his first media briefing in Accra on Monday since the elections, Bediako confirmed his support for his party, saying, “Yes, my wife voted for me, and I voted for myself.” He expressed disappointment over baseless claims aimed at tarnishing his integrity.
Bediako also raised concerns about inconsistencies in the electoral process, particularly the re-collation and re-declaration of results in some contested constituencies. He called for reforms to strengthen democratic structures and ensure transparency in future elections.
“Our system is not the best system that can really support what we believe in as democracy,” he stated, urging national leaders to prioritize the establishment of systems and laws that protect and enhance governance.
In addition, Bediako disclosed gaps in the party’s electoral preparation, including his unawareness of some polling station agents assigned to represent the New Force Movement. Despite these challenges, he emphasized the need for collective efforts to build a robust and transparent electoral system.
Bediako’s New Force Movement, a relatively new entrant in Ghana’s political landscape, faced an uphill battle in the 2024 elections. However, his comments highlight broader concerns about electoral integrity and the strengthening of democratic institutions in the country.
