NPP to Form Committee to Investigate 2024 Election Defeat

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to establish a committee to investigate the causes of its significant defeat in the 2024 general elections. This was disclosed by the party’s National Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, during a press conference held at the NPP headquarters in Accra.

Mr. Ntim acknowledged the widespread disappointment among party members and supporters over the election results. He emphasized the need for deep reflection and honest feedback to guide the party’s reorganization efforts ahead of future electoral contests. According to him, the committee, which will be inaugurated in January 2025, will undertake a comprehensive post-mortem of the election outcome. It will engage party stakeholders and the general public to identify the factors and circumstances that contributed to the defeat.

The chairman further noted that the party intends to review its constitution, particularly the procedures for electing national executives and flag bearers, as part of efforts to strengthen its internal mechanisms. He expressed the party’s commitment to revitalizing its base to better prepare for upcoming elections.

While addressing the press, Mr. Ntim commended the efforts of all campaign teams and emphasized that, despite the setback, the NPP remains committed to its vision of building a better Ghana. “We may not have won the battle, but we haven’t lost the war on the quest for a better Ghana, shaped by the ideals and philosophies of the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.

The announcement follows the declaration of former President John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election. The Electoral Commission confirmed that Mr. Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of valid votes cast, while the NPP’s candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, obtained 4,657,304 votes, accounting for 41.61%.
