The Electoral Commission (EC) has resumed the re-collation of results for nine contested constituencies at its Regional Office in Ridge, Accra, under heavy security. This process, aimed at ensuring accuracy and transparency in the final tally, has drawn significant public attention and political tension.
The exercise is being conducted without representatives from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who have sought a stay of the High Court’s ruling ordering the re-collation.
On December 20, 2024, the High Court directed the EC to re-collate and announce results for nine disputed constituencies, including Ablekuma North, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Techiman South, and Dome Kwabenya. The order nullified earlier announcements due to alleged irregularities during the collation process in the general elections.
Armed police and military personnel have cordoned off the collation center to maintain order and ensure the safety of officials, party representatives, and observers. Security checkpoints restrict access to authorized personnel only. The heightened measures underscore the sensitivity of the exercise, as supporters of major political parties gather nearby, awaiting updates.
At a press conference on December 20, the EC assured the public of its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. The re-collation exercise aims to address disputes over alleged anomalies and ensure a transparent resolution.
This development marks a pivotal moment in Ghana’s electoral process, with the re-collation results expected to have a significant impact on the overall outcome of the general elections.
