A Juvenile Court in Accra has sentenced the 16-year-old son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, Founder of Alive Chapel International, to six months at the Senior Correctional Center. The sentencing on Thursday, December 19, 2024, followed the teenager’s guilty plea to eight charges, including manslaughter, negligent driving, dangerous driving, and driving without a license.
Initially, the juvenile had pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter, three counts of negligently causing harm, two counts of dangerous driving, and one count of driving without a valid license. However, he later changed his plea, leading to his conviction by Her Worship Bernice Mensimah Ackon.
The six-month sentence is the maximum punishment under the Juvenile Justice Act for such offenses. In addition to the sentence, the court directed the young convict to sign an undertaking barring him from driving until he turns 18. He is also required to report to Probation Officers every Friday during the duration of his punishment.
The court also held the boy’s parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife Mouha Amoako, accountable for their son’s actions. They were fined 500 penalty units each, equivalent to GH₵6,000, for failing to control their child. Additionally, Bishop Salifu Amoako was ordered to pay for property damages, including a destroyed light pole valued at over GH₵8,000.
Furthermore, the court mandated the parents to sign an undertaking to ensure their son receives proper upbringing to prevent future offenses.
This judgment highlights the legal responsibility of both juveniles and their guardians, emphasizing the importance of accountability in ensuring public safety.
