A clash between miners and armed intruders at Nyinahin-Kasotie in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region has left one person dead and six injured.
On Monday, December 17, 2024, a group of armed individuals stormed a mining site in the area, demanding gold deposits and attempting to seize control of operations. Assembly Member for the Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Samuel Ayine, reported that the intruders tampered with an excavator’s control board and tried to claim the gold.
The miners, sensing danger, called for help from the community. In response, residents rushed to the site, leading to a violent confrontation. Gunshots were fired during the clash, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.
Enraged by the incident, community members set fire to the intruders’ pickup vehicles. The injured victims are currently receiving medical attention at the Mankranso Government Hospital, while the deceased has been sent to the morgue.
Two suspects have been arrested by the Nyinahin Police. Among them is the driver who transported the intruders to the site and another individual who sustained cutlass injuries during the fight.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice.
