#GhanaPolls2024: Tensions Erupt at Odododiodio Constituency as Voter Sustains Head Injury

Violence broke out at the Mantse Palace No.1 polling station in the Odododiodio constituency during the ongoing general elections, leaving a male voter with a head injury after a heated altercation.

In a video circulating on social media, the injured man is seen bleeding heavily while being surrounded by concerned individuals attempting to calm the situation. Despite his injuries, the victim appeared visibly agitated, prompting bystanders to escort him away to prevent further confrontation with the alleged assailant.

Christian Yalley, a reporter from TV3, revealed that the altercation began when an alleged supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) accused a National Democratic Congress (NDC) official of relocating the voter register to an unauthorized area. The alleged relocation was claimed to have been away from the designated voting area.

Efforts by the official to explain her actions were met with resistance, leading to a physical confrontation. The NPP supporter involved in the scuffle has been taken into police custody for questioning as investigations continue.

The Odododiodio constituency, known as an electoral hotspot, has seen heightened concerns over security following this incident. Earlier in the day, voters raised complaints about faint ink on ballot papers, sparking fears of potential vote invalidation.

The Electoral Commission (EC) swiftly addressed these concerns, assuring voters that all ballots cast would be accurately accounted for and urging calm amid the ongoing voting exercise.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation in the constituency to ensure a peaceful conclusion to the electoral process.
