The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the deployment of its personnel to designated locations to support the Ghana Police Service in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In a press release signed by the Director-General of Public Relations, Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, the GAF emphasized that their deployment is part of a collaborative effort to maintain law and order during the elections.
The statement clarified that military personnel would not be stationed at polling stations. Instead, they would remain on standby, with the Police retaining primary responsibility for election security. The military will only intervene at the request of the Police when necessary.
The public was urged not to panic upon seeing military movements in their localities. GAF assured citizens that their presence is to ensure the elections proceed peacefully and securely.
Additionally, the Armed Forces called on all Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and avoid actions that could disrupt peace and stability.
The GAF reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty while ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process.
